the little eritrea ride

this was the last ride of 2006, and brandon is back flossing the new, skittle-green panels on his metropolitan. we made our first stop at wacko’s to do some christmas shopping. here we are in front looking tight.

stop #2: the second-hand store a few doors down from wacko’s with the pirate statue in front. nice assortment of wigs and such.

stop #3: someone was hell bent on finding the coffin shaped misfits box set at amoeba, so that’s were we went…amoeba. and who (or what) should we find there but our scooters. here they are kicking it out in front.

stop #4: nyala ethiopian café on sofax. the food here was so delicious and just so rewarding after spending the day in the cold.

stop #5: one of melrose avenue’s many thrift stores so that i might purchase a parka. by the way, this parka by alpha industries inc. is so thick and warm that i found myself close to sweating on this otherwise frosty evening ride home.

stop #6: the caltrans building, were a “no scooters” sign is posted (not pictured).

stop #7: little tokyo for italian frozen yogurt. another fun ride despite the night’s cold, cold air. this ride concludes the kb adventures for 2006, but be sure to look out for us in ’07! happy holidays and all that jazz. chau!

left hook: when a scooter/motorcycle/bicycle/etc is proceeding straight through a 3 or 4-way intersection and is struck on its left side by an oncoming car/truck/suv/etc making a left turn. masato miura was left-hooked at 2nd & central in little tokyo. he suffered a compound fracture (the bones were sticking out of the skin) where his foot had actually rotated 180 degrees. at the hospital, he refused to sign the release form authorizing the doctors to amputate his leg. the guy had suffered a great deal due to the negligence of a common enemy (cars and their drivers), so we thought we’d dedicate this ride to him, his harley davidson, the bolts in his shin, to a full recovery, and a torturous death to the driver that hit him. here we are on the way to videothèque in south pasadena so david can return a video.

the honda metropolitan:

in south pas, by total chance, we met our newest member who couldn’t join us for the die hard ride because his vino is having brake problems. get them fixed soon, friend!

representing on mission, and wilshire. olympic provides a fun scooter ride…lots of nice apartments on olympic.

today’s main destination was nakatomi plaza on avenue of the stars in westwood. by the time we got there, it was pretty chilly and overcast. lovely.

two out of the three of us were hungry as fuck, so we celebrated an overcast day of cruising at the bob’s big boy on wilshire. this bob’s is overpriced. your chili-spaghetti will cost you eight bucks and won’t come with the dinner salad. we recommend the one in toluca lake.

…and so the point of this ride: to have our picture taken with cools owner masato! check out his store at 110 japanese village mall, la, ca 90012. you can buy “white power” patches, t-shirts that say “my girlfriend can totally beat up your girlfriend,” xxx hats, and talk to him about motorcycles. you’re a real cool cat, brother. ride safe!

49cc in a 55mph zone

this week, dave squared bombed north broadway into la proper with the mod store as a first destination to look at the fine threads. and of course to have our pictures taken:

stop #2: with one dave impressed and the other depressed by posers, we decided to find out whether or not construction had begun on the expo metro rail line. we took fairfax south until we realized it had become n. la cienega, a 55mph highway. having totally missed the exposition corridor, we pulled over on slauson avenue to give the metropolitan a break.here i am looking like an ass...again...

stop #3: no real destination at this point. we just wanted to do some exploring/sightseeing. here’s the zigzag route we took from melrose to slauson and into downtown...

stop #4: old chinatown at night. lovely atmosphere. here’s david before and after he had to pay a quarter to take a piss.

stop #5: alhambra’s nucleus to be inspired by art. we determined it’s time to enroll in art classes cheaper than art center’s. well, once again we proved that two’s all you need, but next week we’re hoping to be at full strength to honor masato’s encounter with the devil. peace!

stop #1: a fiesta at anti-market celebrating two-wheeled, motorized vehicle culture.

stop #2: the bicycle kitchen to donate some bike parts and orange 20 to pick up some proofide.

stop #3: melrose ave. to check out the mod store and eat pizza.

stop #4: fiore for italian frozen yogurt. good times in the cold. too bad brandon couldn't make it to get his surprise. the next ride will be in honor of cools' owner, masato, whose leg was broken in half when a car stuck him while riding his harley davidson.
